Small exchange has a good selection of food & dry goods.Welcome to Naval Station Newport, just outside historic Newport, Rhode Island! In the cradle of the American Revolution, the commander of the first Continental Navy, Rhode Islander Esek Hopkins, used the Narragansett Bay as a haven for his small fleet. Tips: Jack in the Box & Subway on this side of the base, military gas station & small exchange on the other side of the highway (ocean side) with 24/7 fuel available. super friendly staff, super good rate per night, great location. clean & new but ROCK hard bed, like sleeping on a cement slab. Luckily we had neighbors that weren't keeping us up too late or getting us up too early. The sound travels like a bad dog, especially with the sliding glass door open some, it's like the neighbors are in your room. Normally wouldn't be a problem given the temps here on the water however, they do give you a box fan to put in the sliding glass door if you need it. Also, there's no air conditioning in the rooms. Washer/dryer on our floor & I'd guess every floor. Every room has a balcony with great views of the sea or the harbor. Place was as clean as you could get it given everything's age. Old-fashioned toilet (like you'd see in businesses / institutions), older furniture. ![]() *This is a military hotel only available to eligible patrons* 9-story bldg that was formally a dorm is the lodging here now.
